Phase measurement from thousands of degrees (up to 256 cycles) to micro-degrees
| Description The Visidyne DPP is a digital electronic processor that calculates the phase difference between two 4.5 MHz sinusoidal electronic signals. The DPP continuously makes phase measurements every 0.22 us. The processor averages these samples for a user specified integration time (selected using 20 micro-switches) to yield a 32-bit phase value. The user has complete control of the averaging operation. The user toggles the Start Average control line to begin the average. The End Average control line on the DPP is then toggled once the average is complete. The DPP also calculates the magnitude of the 4.5 MHz signal input. The 8-bit parallel magnitude output can be used to determine signal integrity. The loss-of-signal output notifies the user in the event that the signal is interrupted. In addition, a loss-of-signal event freezes the operation of the DPP so that the phase cycle count is maintained. The DPP calculates both the integer and fractional phase difference
between the signal and reference inputs. When the phase difference exceeds one (1) phase
cycle, an on-board cycle counter is incremented (or decremented when phase decreases). The
DPP has the ability to count up to 256 cycles. The Cycle Pre-Set input is used to
manually set the cycle count. In typical operation, this value is set to 128 so that the
cycle count is continuous over many cycles. |
