CloudScape® VR - Real-time, Radiometric Visualization of Clouds

csvr01.jpg (27015 bytes)csvr02.jpg (16285 bytes)CloudScape® VR is a product for the real-time visualization of 3-dimensional clouds in the visible and infrared wavebands. The image on the left shows CloudScape visualizations of two munitions clouds and a stratus layer in Performer® Town CloudScape VR operates as a module in MultiGen-Paradigm's Vega™ simulation toolkit and works with their SensorVision™ product as well as shown in the diagram on the right.

csvr03.jpg (31458 bytes)csvr04.jpg (35960 bytes)CloudScape VR is multispectral and fully 3-dimensional. The image on the left compares views in the visible, night-vision-goggle, mid-wave infrared, and long-wave infrared wavebands. The first three bands use solar scattered sunlight while the fourth involves thermal emission. The image on the right shows the mesh for a munitions cloud and the rendered cloud.

csvr06.jpg (42647 bytes)csvr07.jpg (78853 bytes)CloudScape uses physics-based modeling. The image on the left shows the physical processes involved. The image on the right shows a comparison with data.

csvr05.jpg (52588 bytes)csvr08.jpg (61768 bytes)CloudScape can be used to visualize a variety of particulate clouds. The image on the left shows a CSSM 2-layer cloud. The image on the right shows a sequence of images in the evolution of a munitions dust cloud. Note that initially the cloud self-shadow is quite distinct, but as the cloud diffuses and dust falls out the self shadowing becomes less distinct and the cloud more tenuous.

csvr09.jpg (16514 bytes) CloudScape can also be used for non-radiometric visualization. The image on the left shows an effluent plume using a "stop-light" color palette.

csvr11.jpg (16935 bytes)csvr12.jpg (10113 bytes)Version 1.2, which is nearing release, includes several new features. The image on the left shows cloud cast shadows on the ground. The image on the right shows a uniform cloud layer structured using a 2-dimensional texture.

csvr13.jpg (15319 bytes)Version 1.2 will also handle weather cloud databases prepared using cyclic boundary conditions. These databases can be "tiled", that is applied repeatedly so that a small database can cover a larger portion of the sky.
